Regular Recommendation

Andrew PrasiloskiI believe that funding for public education in Michigan is in need of reforms to ensure adequate public funding for K-12 and higher education programs in Michigan. Inflation continues to decrease the real amount of dollars available and the current funding formula doesn’t account for the underlying level of inflation that exists. Michigan needs to devote enough funding to create an education system that will not only maintain the high standards that our state and its students deserve, but to also improve our system to meet the growing challenges ahead.

As education becomes more important in our technology driven economy our education system will become even more important in ensuring Michigan its residents remain competitive in the ever changing U.S. and world economy. A sound economy is built on a solid educational foundation and we all must strive to create one which we can be proud of. In order to attract and retain the types of higher paying jobs and businesses Michigan needs to grow. Michigan will need to raise the level of education among its residents.

Education is very important component in making Michigan competitive among the other states in our region and without a world class and fully funded education system, including technical and vocational schools, Michigan will lose its edge in competitiveness. Businesses must recognize that an investment in funding education is an investment in their future also. It will provide trained and competent employees, provide retraining opportunities for their businesses and help build our economy. This cycle of opportunity can help renew Michigan’s competitive edge and create a more dynamic and growing economic base for Michigan and its residents.
